It is not uncommon for family members to face the dying process differently, which can be complicated and unexpected in terms of what the needs of the patient and the family might be. People can feel overwhelmed and experience fear, grief, anger, sadness, regret or other emotions.
As a Death Doula I offer the following services which can support everyone involved with what evolves:
-
Support the patient, family and friends to reframe the dying process as part of a living process
-
I can support communication among families and providers if needed. This can include understanding medical and hospice options.
and the medical system
-
Support people in telling their life story and help them express how they want to be remembered.
-
Help negotiate family dynamics
-
Complement hospice care either in home or in hospital
-
Provide visits as needed to hospital, nursing home,
hospice and private home
-
Facilitate the grief process of family members and friends after loss
-
Assist with the funeral preparations and rituals of grieving (Wake, Shiva, Personal Ceremonies, etc.)
